Sri Lanka’s ace pace Dushmantha Chameera has been ruled out of the Asia Cup 2022 cricket tournament scheduled to take place in the United Arab Emirates from August 27 to September 11. Chameera will miss the Asia Cup 2022 cricket event due to non-healing of an existing injury.

Dushmantha Chameera had suffered an injury in his right leg in the peroneal muscle during a training session. This makes him is the third well-known fast bowler to be ruled out of the Asia Cup. India’s Jasprit Bumrah, with a back injury and Pakistan’s Shaheen Shah Afridi to a knee injury.

Sri Lanka’s top fast bowler, Chameera has taken 48 wickets in 50 T20Is, 44 wickets in 42 ODIs, and 32 wickets in 12 Tests and his absence will be felt by a side that has been fairly inconsistent in recent times. Sri Lanka was the last of the five teams to announce its 20-man squad for the Asia Cup 2022 cricket tournament. The squad also sees the return of the dangerous Dinesh Chandimal. The Asia Cup cricket 2022 tournament was initially scheduled to be played in Sri Lanka, but was later shifted by the Asian Cricket Council to the UAE following political and economic tensions in the country.
