Tension between BCCI and Star Sports regarding South Africa series, know what is the whole matter

An emergency meeting of the BCCI was held on Monday in which Team India’s jersey sponsor Byju’s placed its demand before the BCCI. At the same time, the issue regarding the broadcasting of the South Africa series with Star Sports was also discussed in the meeting.

It is being said that the case of Star Sports is more than 180 crores. A series against South Africa was postponed and Star Sports wants to pay for it according to the old rate while BCCI is asking for money according to the new rate. According to the deal that was done for five years, the average value of an international game was 60 crores. However, in the first year, Star Sports had to pay Rs 46 crore per game. 47 crores in the second year and 46.5 crores were to be given in the third year. Whereas in the fourth year, according to 77.4 crores and in the fifth year, according to 78.9 crores, money was to be given.

Meanwhile, the six-match series against South Africa was postponed due to Kovid. This was the third year of the agreement. The matches of the series which was postponed were played in September and October last year and this was the last year of the agreement. BCCI prepared the bill according to last year but Star Sports wants to pay according to the third year. This was discussed in the Apex Council meeting.

Talking about the issue of Byjus, he is currently the sponsor of the jersey of the Indian team. Although he wants to get out of it, but after this the BCCI asked him to continue the contract till at least March 2023. Now the company wants the board to encash 140 crores of the bank guarantee.
