With only days to go before the Asia Cup 2022 cricket tournament kicks-off, pacer Hasan Mahmud and wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan Sohan have been ruled out of the prestigious tournament scheduled to be held in the UAE. They join Litton Das on the sidelines, thereby, further crippling a Bangladesh side that recently suffered a humiliating series defeat to Zimbabwe.

The team’s loss of three important players puts them in a difficult position as Bangladesh look to win their maiden Asia Cup title. Bangladesh have already finished runners-up thrice – in 2012, 2016 and 2018. However, despite some strong performances in the recent past, they are yet to win the only official continental trophy.

Hasan’s injury puts him out of action for up to a month. The pacer injured his ankle while training last week. Nurul, meanwhile, had undergone a surgery on his injured finger and will need some time to rest before he is deemed fit to play.

Following these developments, Bangladesh have roped in left-handed batter Mohammad Naim after performing exceptionally well for Bangladesh A during their recent tour of the West Indies. The 17-player Bangladesh squad have departed from Dhaka for Dubai on Tuesday.
