Sourav Ganguly speaks about Virat Kohli ahead of Asia Cup 2022

Date:

Former India captain Virat Kohli will rejoin the Indian team for the Asia Tournament after a well-earned layoff, which many veterans and analysts were mainly in favor of. Having missed up to four white-ball games since the IPL in 2022, Kohli is ready to make a strong comeback to his ruthless best. However, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has one final warning for the India batter before Kohli’s return.

Kohli will start his mission to end his century crisis, which has already lasted more than a thousand days in international cricket, on Sunday, the day of India’s opening match against Pakistan in the Asia Cup event at the Dubai International Stadium. Since his last century in November 2019 in Kolkata, Kohli has failed to reach the elusive three-figure mark in 78 innings across all forms. Ganguly said that Kohli must collect runs for himself prior to his return to the Indian team for the Asia Cup.

Sourav Ganguly speaks on Kohli’s form

According to Sourav Ganguly, Virat needs to score runs for himself as well as for India in order for this season to be successful for him.  He added that Kohli is a very important player who has been there for a long time and that he is aware of the player’s unique approach to scoring runs. Players of his stature simply cannot be without such a protracted lean patch. He would not have scored so many runs for so long if he were a bad player.

KL Rahul on Kohli’s form

Earlier, during the pre-game press conference, KL Rahul, the vice-captain of India, was also questioned about Kohli’s continuous struggles and the team’s discussions around them. KL Rahul said that  Virat took a brief break and is now concentrating on his game. He also added that while Virat was hurt, he was being watched on television while he was at home, and he didn’t think Virat appeared out of shape or out of the loop.

Virat, according to Rahul, has clearly fallen short of the benchmarks he set for himself, but the former skipper is eager to return to the field and take home victories for his nation. Throughout his career, he has consistently done it. His philosophy has always been to perform well for his nation. It still holds true today as it did when he was captain.

Rahul was certain that if a player had that mental state, good things would occur. Virat Kohli needs to regain the form that has everyone talking, and since the Indian squad is unconcerned, he shouldn’t be either. Everyone wants to play some games.

Rahul also discussed the World Cup strategy. He claimed that if the hitters are in good shape going into the World Cup or if the bowlers have played enough games, they will have enough confidence before the competition. That is the strategy and what each person and the team will try to accomplish.
