Bumrah needs to be fit before T20 World Cup – Sunil Gavaskar

Date:

On September 20, the Australian squad faced up against the Indian team in the first of a three-match T20I series at Mohali’s Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium. Australia won the toss and elected to field.

Australia defeated India by four wickets in the first T20 encounter of the three-match series to lead 1-0. The Kangaroos were able to chase down 208 runs with 4 wickets in hand thanks to Matthew Wade’s unbeaten 45 off 21 balls and Cameron Green’s quickfire half-century.

Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant were not on the team. While Bumrah won’t be forced into playing until he recovers from back spasms, Pant was benched in favor of Dinesh Karthik, according to Rohit.

Sunil Gavaskar, a renowned batsman, remarked that the squad will miss the services of Bumrah and that his absence will be a significant factor when discussing these two changes in the Indian team for the first T20I.

After Australia chose to field upon having won the toss, Gavaskar said to Star Sports, “Well, I think these 6 matches – they are going to try and have a knowledge of what helps them hold together as a team and of course, the absence of Bumrah is going to be big.”

The bigger picture, in my opinion, is that India has to have a completely healthy Bumrah for the World Cup. The World Cup is the greater picture, which is something we constantly want to do. So I believe it’s crucial to try to keep him in shape,” he continued.

Gavaskar on Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik

Regarding Rishabh Pant’s benching in favor of Dinesh Karthik, Gavaskar believed that the Indian think tank would give both players an equal chance to demonstrate their batting prowess in the T20I series against Australia and South Africa before to the T20 World Cup 2022.

“As far as Pant is concerned, he will participate in the final five games, according to Gavaskar. My gut tells me to try to divide it between the two wicketkeepers so they may each get a chance to demonstrate their bat-finishing abilities. I believe they are attempting to, as I stated previously, get their core team together (for the World Cup), which is why they have chosen this lineup. Let’s not focus too much on the fact that Pant was not selected in the team,” he concluded.
