The former Indian skipper scored his first international century in the shortest format of the game while smashing 12 fours and six sixes on the way to an amazing knock in Dubai.
Virat Kohli, the standout batsman for India, finally surpassed the century milestone during the team’s Asia Cup 2022 match against Afghanistan on Thursday. In the contest in Dubai, Kohli hit an unbeaten 122 off 61 deliveries, becoming the first player to score a century since November 2019. With his 71st international century, Indian batsman Virat Kohli tied former Australia captain Ricky Ponting for the most centuries in cricket history.
Only Sachin Tendulkar, who has 100 international hundreds to his credit, is ahead of Kohli in terms of batting greatness for India. But the Indian batsman also surpassed captain Rohit Sharma for the accomplishment with his century knock against Afghanistan, breaking yet another enormous record.
The 33-year-old batsman’s 122 overcame Rohit’s 117 against Sri Lanka in 2017 to become the highest individual score by an Indian in T20Is.

For the first time since March 2021, Kohli opened India’s batting against Afghanistan, and he did so as a result of a superb 119-run partnership with acting skipper KL Rahul. Following the two swift dismissals of Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav, Kohli stabilized the Indian innings by rotating the strike before eventually adopting an aggressive stance in the last overs. In the 19th over of the innings, he hit a six off of Fareed Ahmed to reach his century.
