T20 World Cup 2022: Semi final Qualification Scenarios for Group 1 Teams

Date:

The T20 World Cup 2022 is currently in its last round, and all teams are vying for a semifinal position. Twelve teams from two groups are competing to see who will finish in the top four slots. Thankfully, none of the teams have yet qualified. Here are the Semi final Qualification Scenarios for Group 1 Teams.

England

When England was beaten by Ireland, it was the biggest shock of their lives. With three games played and only three points, their chances of qualifying are poor. In their remaining games, they play two challenging opponents. In order to guarantee to qualify, England must win both of their remaining games against Australia and two inferior opponents. They will have to pray that Australia, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan lose one of their games if they lose against New Zealand.

Australia

Australia has 5 points after 4 games after defeating Ireland. Australia is well-positioned to get to the semifinals, with the exception of New Zealand. To get to seven points, they would unquestionably need to win their upcoming game against Afghanistan. That would not, however, ensure their place in the last four. They would have to pray that at least one of England’s games ends in a loss.

New Zeland

The T20 World Cup 2022’s top team thus far has been New Zealand. New Zealand has three wins and five points from those games. They still have two games left, and a victory (likely against Ireland) should be sufficient for them to go to the final four. If New Zealand triumphs over England, they may be eliminated.

Sri Lanka

With a solid victory over the Netherlands, Sri Lanka had a strong tournament debut. However, their campaign is in ruins after consecutive losses to Australia and New Zealand. They are still in the competition. However, they would need to win both of their games in addition to hoping that England, Ireland, and Australia lose at least one of their games if they wanted to advance.

Ireland and Afghanistan

It goes without saying that Afghanistan and Ireland’s chances of qualifying are slim. After losing to Australia, Ireland is on the verge of being eliminated. Afghanistan will also need to win both of their games in order to ensure that England, Sri Lanka, and Australia each lose one of their games.

So that’s the situation for all Group 1 teams qualifying for the T20 World Cup semifinals in 2022.
