After taking a knock to the side of his head during a training session in Melbourne, Pakistani batter Shan Masood was rushed to the hospital.
Masood wasn’t batting at the moment, but he wasn’t wearing a helmet when he was hit by a loose ball off the bat from Mohammad Nawaz. Masood stumbled to the ground and screamed out in agony. The team doctor immediately attended to him.
Prior to their first group match against India on Sunday, Pakistan was practicing at the MCG when the event happened.
Masood was aware and unaffected by a concussion after the impact, thus there were no immediate causes for concern.
“He took an unpleasant blow to a delicate spot. I’m not sure of his present situation, but he passed the tests our physio gave him,” Shadab Khan, the vice-captain of Pakistan, said. “He has since arrived at the hospital for a scan. We’re hoping for a speedy recovery for him.”
Masood recently started playing T20
In the run-up to the World Cup, Masood has established himself as a consistent starter for the Pakistan T20I team, gaining a place at number three. He played in all seven of Pakistan’s T20 International matches against England after making his format debut, as well as all of Pakistan’s matches in the tri-series against New Zealand and Bangladesh.
He had two half-centuries against England but struggled in the tri-series, and Fakhar Zaman was expected to take his spot in the starting XI. On September 20, 2022, Shan Masood played his first T20I match against England. He was included in the Pakistan T20I team for the series against England in September 2022. Masood has amassed 220 runs at 24.44 in his first 12 matches. He has cracked two fifties, with his top score being 65*.
Masood might not play against India on Sunday
Masood was fortunate enough to be able to walk away from the nets area and was afterward driven to the hospital. Furthermore, Masood is probably going to be kept under supervision and will have to wait to see if he can play in Pakistan’s opening match of the ICC T20 World Cup against India on Sunday. If the left-hander is told to take a break, Fakhar Zaman might take his spot in the starting lineup.
On Sunday, Pakistan’s Super 12 Group 2 debut will take place against its bitter opponent, India. It’s interesting to note that Pakistan defeated India in a World Cup group match last year and contributed to India’s elimination from the 2022 Asia Cup.
