How can Pakistan still reach the semi-finals after losing to Zimbabwe?

Date:

Pakistan’s hopes of reaching the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2022 have suffered a major setback. After the defeat against the Zimbabwe Cricket Team, the path of the Pakistani team to reach the semi-finals became very difficult. However, Pakistan is not yet formally out of the race for the semi-finals. Their chances are still there but for this they will have to depend on the defeats and wins of the other teams.

Pakistan’s team is at the fifth position in the points table with two losses in two matches. The Bangladesh team is also ahead of them. Pakistan will have to win all their remaining matches by a huge margin to stay in the semi-final race. Apart from this, it has to be expected that the team of India and South Africa can not increase more than six points. Now only the poor performance of South Africa and India can take Pakistan to the semi-finals.

South Africa’s defeat is very important for Pakistan

If South Africa lose their remaining matches, then Pakistan will have chances. The Proteas team is yet to play matches against Netherlands, Pakistan and India and if they lose two of these matches, then there can be an opportunity for Pakistan. However, Pakistan will have to improve its net run rate.

Zimbabwe defeated Pakistan by one run in an exciting way in the match played in Perth. Playing first, Zimbabwe’s team made a small score of 130 runs for 8 wickets. It seemed that the Pakistani team would easily achieve this target but it did not happen. Zimbabwe, bowling tremendously, allowed Pakistan to score only 129 runs.
