Danish Kaneria, a former Pakistani spinner, believes Virat Kohli erred by skipping international competitions. With the bat, Kohli has been struggling since he hasn’t produced many significant runs across all forms this year, and his most recent international century was in 2019. He also had a disappointing IPL 2022, scoring just 341 runs in 16 innings for Royal Challengers Bangalore at an average of 22.73.

Kaneria stressed Kohli’s loss of the captaincy and his recent conflicts with the BCCI, and he recommended that the batting wizard concentrate on cricket.
“Three years have passed since the dilemma began. He lost his ODI captaincy following the 2021 T20 World Cup, and the board’s problems and statements then surfaced in the media. Too much took place. If he wants to continue playing for a few more years, I believe he needs to concentrate more on cricket and improve his batting. India Today quoted Kaneria.
The former spinner claimed that in order to control his workload, Kohli should have skipped IPL games and participated in more international competitions, such as the recently finished five-match T20I series against the West Indies.
“He ought to have missed a few IPL games, but he shouldn’t have missed any international cricket matches, as that could have helped him regain his form. In the next Asia Cup, where India’s Men in Blue will open their campaign against arch-rival Pakistan on August 28, Kohli will make his comeback in Indian colors. “The five T20Is against West Indies were essential for him, and he should have come up and played in that series,” he continued.

Kaneria believes that Kohli will face pressure to play well in the multi-nation format because he would start the competition with little match experience.
“After the England series, he stopped playing. He might have been able to regain his form by playing domestic cricket in England. He will arrive at the Asia Cup in top condition. The next step is to determine whether or not he will be able to perform. He will be playing under a lot of strain. On a big day with huge runs, I’m hoping he’ll come and put on a big show,” he remarked.
