Asia cup 2022: India lost to Sri Lanka, Almost out of the race to reach final

The Super-4 stage match of the Asia Cup 2022 was played between India and Sri Lanka on the night of 6 September. It was very important for the Indian team to win this match to take their caravan to the final. Before the start of this match to be played at Dubai International Stadium, Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka, while winning the toss, invited Team India to bat first. Where no player other than Rohit Sharma was able to make a big score. Due to which Team India could score only 173 runs, while dwarfing the target of 174 runs, Sri Lanka won the match with 6 wickets remaining.

Rohit Sharma’s stormy fifty, India scored 173 runs

After losing the toss, the Indian cricket team, which came to bat first, started from bad to worse. Opener KL Rahul got out on a personal score of just 6 runs in the second over itself. At the same time, Virat Kohli, who is in excellent form, faced 4 balls and was forced to measure the path of the pavilion without opening an account. But in this difficult situation, captain Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav took the lead and handled the innings with restraint.

During this, Surya was just trying to save the wicket by staying at one end. But Rohit Sharma continued to attack the bowlers in an aggressive manner. The captain scored 72 runs in 41 balls, with Yadav, Rohit shared a 97-run partnership for the third wicket. Which set the stage for the Indian middle order. But Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya and Deepak Hooda could not do anything special. Due to which Team India was able to score only 173 runs.

Pathum Nisanka and Kusal Mendis gave Sri Lanka a strong start

Chasing the target of 174 runs, the Sri Lankan batsmen used the power play to wash the Indian bowlers. Within just 6 overs, Sri Lanka’s score had reached 57 runs without any loss. No bowler was able to stop Pathum and Mendis. Alam was that the Lankan batsmen put on a partnership of 97 runs for the first wicket. On this occasion, the Indian team did not seem to be making a comeback in the match in any way. But then Yuzvendra Chahal came in the 12th over and made Nisanka walk. After which the life of the Indian team came to life.
