Virat Kohli Breaks This Record of Sachin Tendulkar

With his explosive 82 run batting performance against Pakistan on Sunday, Virat Kohli outperformed his cricketing idol and the legendary Sachin Tendulkar of India. In terms of most fifty-plus scores at ICC competitions, the top Indian batter passed Tendulkar. 

At the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), during the current ICC T20 World Cup 2022, Kohli crossed Tendulkar’s tally of 23 fifty-plus scores. ICC Cricket World Cup participant Virat Kohli has 1,030 runs at an average of 46.81 in 26 games. His bat has produced two hundreds, six half-centuries, and a top score of 107.

Virat has scored 927 runs at an average of 84.27 across his 22 matches and 20 innings at the ICC T20 World Cup. His bat has produced eleven half-centuries, with a high of 89*. He ranks third among all-time run scorers in tournament history, after only Mahela Jayawardene of Sri Lanka and West Indies great Chris Gayle (965) (1,016). 

Virat’s bat has produced 529 runs at an incredible average of 88.16 in 12 innings during the course of his 13 ICC Champions Trophy games. His bat has produced five half-centuries, with a top score of 96*.

Virat has amassed a total of 2,486 runs in 60 innings at an average of 60.63 in 61 ICC tournament games. His bat has produced two century and 22 half-centuries, with a top score of 107.

In contrast, Sachin has scored 2,278 runs at an average of 56.95 in 45 World Cup games in 44 innings. His bat has produced six tonnes and fifteen fifties, with a high of 152. He has scored the most in tournament history. The ICC T20 World Cup has seen no appearances from Sachin. In 16 games of the Champions Trophy, Sachin scored 441 runs at an average of 36.75 in 14 innings.

In this competition, he has hit two centuries and a half-century, with a top score of 141.

In his 61 games at ICC competitions, Sachin has a total score of 2,719. These runs have occurred at an average of 49.43. His bat has produced seven hundreds and sixteen half-centuries, with a top score of 152.

With this victory, India has two points and leads Group 2 in terms of standings.
