Australian legend Brett Lee expressed surprise over the selection of pacer Umran Malik in the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup. He said that he would have liked to see the fast bowler of Jammu and Kashmir on the fast and bouncy tracks of Australia. Lee described the absence of Umran Malik in the Indian squad and Cameron Green in the Australian squad as two major surprises.
Umran Malik bowled tremendously in IPL 2022 and surprised everyone with his fast pace. He took 20 wickets in 14 matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad and made his Ireland tour debut. He was also dropped from the team due to mediocre performance in the three T20 matches played so far. That’s why his name was not considered in the World Cup.
On the other hand, Australian all-rounder Cameron Greene’s recent performance with the bat has been very good. He has scored 134 runs in five T20Is played so far at a strike rate of 186.11. His batting was very aggressive in the recent T20 series against India and he also scored two stormy half-centuries as an opener. Green also got a chance in the first match of the two-match series against West Indies but is yet to feature in the World Cup squad.
Speaking to India Today on the sidelines of the Legends League tournament, Brett Lee said,
I would love to see Umran Malik in Australia. The absence of Umran Malik in the Indian squad was a big surprise for me, I think he should play. Cameron Green has to play for Australia. I do not understand how Cameron Green is not in the team. Indian team leaves for Australia
This morning the Indian team’s World Cup squad has left for Australia. In place of 15, only 14 members were seen in the Indian squad as the replacement of fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has not been announced yet. India’s first match in the tournament is against arch-rivals Pakistan. The match will take place in Melbourne on 23 October.Umran Malik not being a part of India’s T20 World Cup squad is surprising, Australian legend made a big statement
