Indian batters did well
In an Asia Cup Super 4 encounter on Sunday, India put up a strong 181 for 7 against Pakistan, demonstrating what their much-maligned top-order batters are capable of. In the Powerplay, India’s captain Rohit Sharma (28) and KL Rahul (28) shone, while Virat Kohli (60) showed flashes of his former glory by playing one of his most sublime knocks in recent memory to lead India to a total that is more than respectable.
Everyone expected a shift in attitude from India’s top order, which was demonstrated by the strike rates of 175 (Rohit), 140 (Rahul), and 136 (Kohli). The total India scored against Pakistan spinners is entirely because of Kohli, especially when leg-spinner Shadab Khan (2/31 in 4 overs) secured crucial dismissals for Rahul and Rishabh Pant (14).
Along with his trademark running between the wickets, where he effortlessly turned ones into twos, his innings featured four boundaries and a six. After receiving criticism for their deliberate pace during the Powerplay, captain Rohit made his intentions clear by giving Naseem Shah the charge and obtaining a one-bounce-four over cover point. A remarkable pull-shot for a six followed it.
