Former Indian player Aakash Chopra believes that due to the weak bowling of Team India, the hopes of winning the T20 World Cup 2022 have been reduced. Apart from this, the former player has also reprimanded leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal for bowling fast in the first T20 against Australia.
The bowling of the Indian team has looked weak since the Asia Cup 2022. In the recently concluded tournament, the team’s bowlers failed to defend the target. Even against Australia, despite having scored more than 200 runs, the Indian bowlers seemed to be struggling. Regarding the poor performance of bowling in the Asia Cup, it was said that Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel are not there and all will be well with their arrival. Bumrah was rested in Mohali but Harshal Patel disappointed with his bowling on his return and spent 49 runs in his spell without taking a wicket.
Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel,
We are saying Harshal will come back, Bumrah will come back and everything will be fine. It doesn’t happen. This is the sad truth of life. Mumbai Indians also had Bumrah in the team but the rest didn’t bowl well and we saw what happened this year. You can take five to six wickets in a match, you may not get as many wickets in the rest of the day. According to me, Indian bowling is looking very weak, there is no option to take wickets. Yuji Chahal is bowling fast. He is not bowling slow. The same thing happened in the Asia Cup. How to get wickets if you don’t bowl slow? With this bowling line-up, chances of winning the World Cup are slim – Aakash Chopra
The cricketer-turned-commentator stalwart feels that the Indian bowling department is weak and Australia also won without the four main players. Chopra said,
The reality is that India’s bowling line-up is weak. With this line-up, the chances of winning the World Cup dwindle. If you can’t defend 208, things are going to get difficult. Remember, this Australian team is without its four main players.
