In the highly anticipated match between India and Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2022 on Sunday, August 28, both teams were compelled to place an additional fielder inside the 30-yard circle in the closing stages of their bowling innings.
Even though Hardik Pandya’s all-around abilities were the key factor in India’s thrilling five-wicket triumph in Group A, the crowd probably missed the fact that both teams had to put one additional fielder inside the 30-yard circle during the latter stages of their bowling innings. ICC reveals the reason
India and Pakistan were both required to place an additional fielder inside the 30-yard circle during the final stages of their bowling innings in Sunday’s Asia Cup match according to a new rule governing T20I matchups. Both teams were penalized by the additional restriction for slow over-rate, which was established in January of this year because they were unable to begin bowling their final over before the stipulated end of innings time.
India, who bowled first, had completed less than 18 overs in the permitted time, therefore Rohit Sharma was obliged to play the final two overs with five fielders inside the circle. With one ball remaining in the innings, the team bowled Pakistan out for 147 after conceding 23 runs over the course of the first eleven deliveries.

Pakistan, captained by Babar Azam, ran out of time during India’s chase and were forced to bowl the remaining three overs under the same constraints. Taking advantage of the extra fielder, Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya scored the 32 runs needed to win and finished the chase with two balls remaining.
A one-off T20I match between the West Indies and Ireland at Sabina Park in mid-January was the first match played under the revised playing conditions recommended by the ICC Cricket Committee last year. The organization sits in part to improve the pace of play across all formats.
The ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel states that the in-match penalty is in addition to the penalties for slow over rate and that the same restrictions will apply to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, which will be held in Australia in October and November.
