Before the T20 World Cup to be played in Australia from October, the Indian team has suffered a major setback. Team India’s leading fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been out of the tournament due to ‘back stress fracture’. Recently, Bumrah made a comeback in the team after recovering from the problem of back pain from the three-match T20 series played against Australia. The right-arm fast bowler played both the last matches against Australia.
However, before the start of the series against South Africa, he suffered a back pain during a practice session and missed Bumrah in the first T20I last night (September 28). Earlier, he was also ruled out of the Asia Cup due to a back injury. According to the report of PTI, Bumrah can stay away from the cricket field for about six months. In this article, we will mention those 3 fast bowlers who can be selected in the squad of Team India in place of Jasprit Bumrah in the T20 World Cup.

Jammu and Kashmir’s young fast bowler Umran Malik can make a place in the Indian team for the T20 World Cup. He may not have the experience of playing as much as Bumrah but Malik definitely has the art of bowling at a fast pace. The 22-year-old young bowler had a great performance in IPL 2022. He took 22 wickets in 14 matches for SRH.
In view of his performance in the IPL, Malik was given a place in India’s T20 team by the BCCI. However, in his three matches so far, the right-arm fast bowler has not proved to be very impressive. But Malik can prove to be very useful on Australian pitches. There the fast bowlers get a lot of help from the pitch. This characteristic of Malik is like the X factor for the Indian team which teams always look for in big tournaments.
Deepak Chahar is one of the four players who have been selected by the BCCI as reserve players for the T20 World Cup. After Bumrah’s exit from the event, the selectors can definitely pick Chahar in India’s main team. Apart from bowling excellently, Chahar is also capable of contributing with the bat.
In the first match against South Africa on 28 September, the right-arm pacer performed well, scoring two successes for 24 runs in four overs. In Thiruvananthapuram, Chahar took full advantage of the help from the pitch and bowled tight against the African batsmen. Talking about Chahar’s T20 International career, he has taken 28 wickets in 22 matches at an average of 22.53. During this, the 30-year-old bowler has an economy rate of 8.08.
Mohammed Shami is a strong contender to replace Bumrah in the T20 World Cup. Shami has not played a single match in the shorter format since the T20 World Cup 2021 but Shami’s performance in IPL 2022 was phenomenal. In the last IPL season, Shami was seen in great rhythm. In the 15th season, Shami was part of Gujarat Titans and he took 20 wickets in 16 matches for his franchise.
Shami took wickets in the opening overs for his franchise and was instrumental in helping the team win the trophy. Looking at his performance, the fans had full hopes that the 32-year-old fast bowler would definitely make it to the Indian team for the T20 World Cup. But the selectors included him in the list of reserve players.
However, Shami did find a place in India’s T20 squad against Australia and South Africa. Unfortunately, Shami fell victim to Kovid-19 and had to be ruled out of both the series. Now he has recovered and can be selected on the basis of experience.
