Zimbabwe registered a thrilling 1 run win against Pakistan in the 24th match of the T20 World Cup 2022. Playing first, Zimbabwe team scored 130/8 in 20 overs, in reply Pakistan team could score only 129/8 and lost the match. Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza was awarded the player of the match for his brilliant bowling.
After winning the toss, Zimbabwe took the early advantage of electing to bat and put 42 runs on the board in just 5 overs. The team got the first blow on the score of 42 and on the last ball of the fifth over, Haris Rauf walked Craig Ervine on a personal score of 19. Second opener Wesley Madhevere was also dismissed after scoring 17 runs in 13 balls for 43. Milton Shumba became the victim of Shadab Khan after scoring 8 runs. On the score of 95, Shaun Williams also went on to make 31 runs in 28 balls. From here the wickets started falling and Zimbabwe’s innings faltered. Brad Evans scored 19 runs in the lower order to take the team to a respectable score. For Pakistan, Mohammad Wasim took four wickets for 24 runs.

Chasing the target, Pakistan’s start was also poor and both the team’s openers were dealt cheaply. Babar Azam 4 and Mohammad Rizwan returned to the pavilion after scoring 14 runs. Iftikhar Ahmed also became the victim of Luke Jongwe by scoring 5 runs and the team got the third blow on the score of 36. From here Shan Masood took one end and together with Shadab Khan took the score to 88. Shadab scored 17 runs in 14 balls. Haider Ali walked on the very first ball and could not even open his account. Shan Masood was batting well but on the score of 94, he too got out after scoring 44 runs in 38 balls.

From here Mohammad Nawaz and Mohammad Wasim took command and the match reached the last over. Pakistan needed 11 runs in the last over. Pakistan had scored 8 runs in the first four balls of Brad Evans but Nawaz was caught on the fifth ball. He got out after scoring 22 runs. Shaheen Afridi was run out in an attempt to take two runs off the last ball and the Zimbabwe team registered a thrilling win. Wasim returned unbeaten after scoring 12 runs. Sikandar Raja took 3 wickets for Zimbabwe.
