In the final match of the Asia Cup 2022 Super 4 stage on Friday, Babar Azam’s Pakistan lost to Sri Lanka by five wickets (September 9). Dasun Shanaka won the toss and asked Pakistan to bat first. The Lankan Lions then bowled out the Men in Green for 121 with 5 balls remaining.
With three overs remaining, Sri Lanka completed the 122-run chase by playing their best ball and bat. The major player was Wanindu Hasaranga, who secured 3 wickets for his team with the ball. Opener Pathum Nissanka continued his fine form with another half-century in the ongoing tournament.
Pakistan still has a chance to prove themselves against the same opponent in the tournament finals, despite the fact that they lost the match. During the Sri Lanka vs. Pakistan game, there was one instance where the Pakistan captain was unimpressed with the umpire. Despite Babar Azam not making a request, the on-field umpire requested a DRS appeal during the 16th over of the second innings.
Watch the video below:
Everything started as Babar was still asking his colleagues if the edge was verified when Mohammad Rizwan asked thee umpire for the DRS call. Babar expressed his displeasure at the umpire for bringing the ball up without his permission by addressing the official as “Main captain hu (I’m the captain)”.
However, Pakistan was unsuccessful in its review because Pathum Nissanka, who was still unbeaten at 55 in Sri Lanka’s victorious chase of 122 against Pakistan, had a big gap between the ball and his bat.
The Lankan Lions are not to be taken lightly, as seen by Sri Lanka’s victory over Pakistan before to the Asia Cup 2022 final. However, Pakistan is still missing a couple of its key players, including fast bowler Naseem Shah and Shadab Khan. Shadab had a niggle, according to Babar, and Naseem had been granted a break because the final was on Sunday (September 10).
