T20 World Cup: Virat Kohli Becomes Highest Run Scorer in T20 World Cup History

Date:

Virat Kohli, the standout batsman for Team India, has now amassed the most runs in T20 World Cup history, adding even another achievement to his already illustrious resume.

At the current T20 World Cup 2022 match between the Men in Blue and Bangladesh on Wednesday, November 2, at Adelaide Oval, Kohli reached the milestone. The 33-year-old overtook Sri Lankan batting star Mahela Jayawardene during his innings to take over the top place.

Jayawardene has scored 1016 runs in 31 innings during the championship T20 match. In only 25 innings, Kohli outran the previous cricketer’s run total.

Others on the list

Third on the list of players with the most runs scored is swashbuckling West Indian opener Chris Gayle (965 runs), while Indian skipper Rohit Sharma (921 runs) is now in the fourth position.

Since his unbroken 122-run knock against Afghanistan, he hasn’t looked back and has been consistently scoring large runs for his team.

Virat Kohli is in great form

At the T20 World Cup 2022, Virat Kohli emerged as Team India’s best batsman. The team’s victories over Pakistan and the Netherlands in their first two group-stage games were made possible in large part by the champion batter.

During India’s opening match against archrival Pakistan, the right-handed batter wowed spectators with a brilliant knock. Everyone praised Kohli for his undefeated 82-ball innings, which led India to a thrilling victory on the last ball.

While Kohli has been among the top run scorers in the history of cricket, he came under fire earlier this year for a protracted slump with the bat. He was able to silence his detractors, though, by storming back to form at the Asia Cup 2022 and smashing his eagerly anticipated 71st century.

In the match against the Netherlands, Virat Kohli put up yet another strong showing and went undefeated at 62. As they try to win the prized trophy, Rohit Sharma and company will be hoping that Kohli maintains his excellent batting form.

India is currently ranked second in Group 2 with four points after three games with a net run rate of 0.844.
