In the 19th match of the T20 World Cup 2022, Australia defeated Sri Lanka by 7 wickets. Playing first, Sri Lanka scored 157/6 in 20 overs, in reply Australia won the match by scoring 158/3 in 16.3 overs. Marcus Stoinis was adjudged the player of the match for his stormy half-century.
Australia won the toss and invited Sri Lanka to bat first. The team had a poor start and opening batsman Kusal Mendis was dismissed after scoring 5 runs. From here, Pathum Nissanka made a half-century partnership with Dhananjaya de Silva to take the score to 75. De Silva went on after scoring 26 runs in the 12th over. Nisanka’s slow innings also ended at 97 as he was dismissed for 40 off 45 balls.

A few more wickets fell but Charith Aslanka and Chamika Karunaratne made quick runs in the end to take their team to a challenging score. Aslanka scored an unbeaten 38 off 25 balls with the help of three fours and two sixes, while Karunaratne also returned unbeaten on 14 runs in 7 balls. Five bowlers achieved one success each for Australia.
Chasing the target, Australia got the first blow at 26 in the fifth over. David Warner became the victim of Mahish Teekshana after scoring 11 runs in 10 balls. Mitchell Marsh also went on to make 18 runs in 17 balls. Captain Aaron Finch held on despite a struggle from one end and Glenn Maxwell did the job of taking the pressure off him. Batting fast, Maxwell scored 23 runs in 12 balls. His innings also included two fours and two sixes.
Maxwell’s wicket fell on the score of 89 but from here Marcus Stoinis came in a different style and he took the news of Sri Lankan bowlers fiercely with his stormy batting. Stoinis scored an unbeaten 59 off 18 balls with the help of four fours and six sixes to give his team an easy victory. During this, he also scored the joint second fastest half-century in T20 World Cup history. Finch also remained unbeaten on 31 off 42 balls.
